What other storage systems do you design and build besides closets?
ClosetCraft provides a range of storage design services. Of course our specialty and most popular products are closet organizers. However, we design and customize any type of closet to be most functional and useful, master bedroom closets, walk-in closets, reach-in closets, linen closets, kids closets, or spare bedroom closets. Each of our closet systems is designed to your specific needs. We can help you maximize space in pantries, mud rooms, offices, and laundry rooms as well as creating Murphy Beds (wall beds). In garages you can hang more tools. In laundry rooms you can organize your supplies more easily and in pantries everything has its place. But it’s in closets and armoires that we really do our magic. Let us show you. Set up a free consultation now to see how to maximize any space today!

Do I need to clean out my closets or storage space before my design consultation?
ClosetCraft storage system designers are very skilled at measuring and deciphering what your needs will be. Cleaning out your closet is not necessary. However, keep in mind that reaching back and side walls to get proper measurements will ensure a storage system that fits specifically in your space so adjusting some items to make this possible may be a good idea before our arrival.

What materials do you use to build your storage systems?
ClosetCraft storage and closet systems are made of laminated wood or the widely used industry term, melamine; this is the main building material for closet organizers. Melamine is a compressed wood product; it is very durable and held together by adhesives (melamine). It is often used in furniture and sometimes as countertops. It is more sturdy and dependable than plywood and comes in laminate and veneer finishes.

How much do your closets and storage systems cost?
There are many factors that influence the cost of a custom closet or organizational system in any part of your home. These include, but are not limited to, the basic design concept, the size of the space, the number and size of shelves, drawers and doors, the finish selected and the options or accessories desired. At ClosetCraft, we price each and every part individually in order to accurately establish your cost. Some other closet companies charge by the linear foot, which is a method that often results in higher pricing. During your free in-home consultation, your designer will create a custom storage system design for you and give you our best price, up front, with no built-in padding for haggling purposes. Your ClosetCraft designer will work with you to create a design that meets your storage needs at a price that is most affordable.

What prep work must be done before installation of closet and or storage systems can take place?
If you live in a multi-unit building or high-rise, please notify building management of your installation. Please advise us of any special circumstances that could impact our installation team such as parking. If there is an elevator in your building, please follow your building’s procedures for reserving it. It is your responsibility to remove your personal effects from the area in and around which we will be working. This presents an excellent opportunity to make some tough decisions about those things that you haven’t used in a year or more! It is our expectation that our installation team will find an empty space in which to work. If we are replacing existing rods and shelves, we recommend you remove them ahead of time and take the opportunity to repair and repaint your wall surfaces.

What size drawers are most functional in closet storage systems?
Most drawers come in standard sizes, but of course sizes vary and it is best to consult your designer for details. We generally keep drawers to 24" wide, the depth of standard drawers ranges from 12" deep to 20" deep, and the standard heights are between 6-12" tall or 4" tall for jewelry drawers. For items like socks, undergarments, and t-shirts, 8" tall or so is almost perfect. If the drawer is too tall, items may get jumbled, wrinkled or you may not see the items at the bottom and forget that they are there. Adding drawers to closet organizers is all about organization and convenience, so drawers that are too big for your needs can get cluttered and drawers that are too small for your needs won't serve their purpose. It's better to have two standard size drawers instead of one large drawer if you have a lot of one type of item. If you believe that you have a normal amount of socks, t-shirts, undergarments and drawer items, then one "standard" drawer for each type of item should be sufficient.

How can I optimize storage space with high ceilings?
Many closets have high ceilings with a lot of unreachable space. If you have many books or keepsake items that you don't frequently use, you can add shelving or cabinets to the top of your closet organizers or design closet organizers that reach the ceiling. You will need a step stool or ladder to access these items, but you will have space to store them none-the-less. If you have high ceilings, but don't want storage items or clothing too high up, you may take advantage of your ceiling height by adding track or pendant lighting. This can add a bright, cheery feel to your space and give it a custom look! For those who want to take advantage of high closet ceilings and have a lot of clothing, there is an amazing accessory called a garment lift. This is a closet rod supported by two bars on either end that move up and down on a hinge. A long handle hangs from the pole which a person could pull to bring the closet rod,and clothes hanging on this rod, down towards them for easy access. Since the garment lift swings down and out from the wall, caution should be taken to make sure there is enough space in the closet for this accessory to function properly. Garment lifts are most common with custom closet organizers since they need to be anchored to a system on either side.
